After spending the first two weeks of the season on the road, the Lowry High School softball team made its home debut this past weekend.

The Lady Bucks gave the home town crowd something to cheer about, sweeping Spring Creek in a three-game series by a combined total of 40-5.

Lowry won the series opener on Friday 14-4 and claimed both games of the doubleheader on Saturday 15-0 and 11-1.

“It was a solid series and the girls are doing what we ask of them,” said LHS coach Ty Lucas. “Offensively, we made the adjustments we needed to and it did not take a long time. We played upon a lot of energy and excitement, which was good to see.”

Lowry routs Spring Creek

Lowry jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Friday afternoon and never trailed. Alyssa Kuskie and Sydney Connors used singles to put the Lady Bucks in front.

Spring Creek took advantage of two Lowry errors in the top of the fourth inning to trim the deficit in half but that was as close as the contest got. The Lady Bucks answered with eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 10-1.

Connors opened and closed the fourth inning with doubles, as Lowry batted around. Sierra Maestrejuan, Kuskie and Kyllie Sappington also had hits in the frame.

The Spartans cut the gap to 10-4 in the top of the fifth inning on a three-run home run by Jacyee Fryensee but that was all the scoring for Spring Creek. Lowry answered back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth after base hits by Bailey Sapien, Sylvie Prokasky, Kuskie and Kelcey Cooper. Lowry closed out the game in the bottom of the sixth on bases-loaded single by Maestrejuan.

The Lady Bucks pounded out 17 hits in the contest, with Connors leading the way with four hits, four runs scored and three RBI. Kuskie added three hits and Madi McClellan, Cooper, Sappington and Maestrejuan each had two hits.

Prokasky earned the win in the circle with the complete-game outing. She allowed four hits and four runs, Prokasky struck out four and walked two.

After a slow start in Saturday’s first game, Lowry used an 11-run third inning to beat Spring Creek 15-0 in four innings.

Sappington provided Lowry a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as she doubled home Cooper. The Lady Bucks extended the margin to 2-0 in the second inning, when Maestrejuan scored after doubling to lead off the frame.

Lowry sent 15 batters to the plate in the 11-run third inning. The Lady Bucks had just four hits in the inning, taking advantage of a number of Spartan miscues. The Lady Bucks ended the game early on a RBI-single by Sapien that scored Connors with two outs.

Maestrejuan paced Lowry with three hits, three runs scored and two RBI. Connors added two hits and three runs scored and Sappington and McClellan each had a hit and two RBI. Macey Katzenmeyer, Kuskie and Sapien had one hit apiece.

Katzenmeyer earned the victory for the Lady Bucks, allowing just two hits. She struck out five and walked two in the 70-pitch performance.

Lowry completes sweep of Spring Creek

Lowry scored in each of the five innings in the series finale, putting away the game in the bottom of the fifth with six runs.

The Lady Bucks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as Kuskie and Cooper crossed the plate.

Lowry extended the lead to 4-0 after three innings after RBI-singles by Kuskie and Sapien. Spring Creek got on the board in the top of the fourth inning on the strength of a solo home run by Fryensee. That was all the offense for the Spartans.

Lowry put the game away in the bottom of the fifth inning, taking advantage of three Spring Creek errors. Sapien and Kuskie had the only hits in the frame, as the Lady Bucks ended the contest by scoring two runs on a wild pitch.

Kuskie had four of Lowry’s nine hits, while Sapien added two. Kuskie, Cooper and Prokasky each had two RBI.

Prokasky picked up her second win of the series, holding Spring Creek to three hits and one run. The senior struck out one and walked none. Maestrejuan threw the final inning and had one strikeout.

“Our pitchers did a good job this weekend,” Lucas said. “We have the ability to put a bunch of different girls out there. The defense picked up and helped them out.”

Lowry is back home this weekend to play Sparks, beginning Friday at 3 p.m. The two teams play a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m. Sparks dropped three games to Churchill County last week.

“We can’t look forward to anything right now,” Lucas said. “Our focus is Sparks on Friday.”
