The Battle Mountain High School boys golf team traveled to West Wendover for the second week in a row to compete in a league tournament. The team showed signs of improvement claiming third place, led by Brody Young.
On Wednesday, March 21, Elko High School hosted the golf tournament in West Wendover due to the Elko golf course being closed l during the scheduled tournament date.
BMHS golf coach Roger Wallock witnessed some positive improvements during the tournament.
“We had much better weather this week, and Brody had a good day on the course,” said Wallock. “Medaling again this week makes it two weeks in a row we have finished in the top three. Avery (Tucker) had a good showing for him improving on his seasons best score by over 25 shots. We are just glad to get some practice time on real greens since our golf course hasn’t opened them up for play yet.”
The Longhorns golf team was led by Young who finished with the third-lowest score of the day at 92. Jimmy Harris shot the next lowest score of the day for the Longhorns, with a final stroke count of 102.
Tucker and Jake Smith each shot 112 on the day followed by Bradley Rogers rounding out the team scores with a 145 at the end of the day.
In total, the BMHS golf team totaled a score of 418, good enough to claim third place as a team in the tournament.
The Longhorn golf team does not have a tournament this week but will resume play on over the school spring break on Thursday, April 5, at the White Pine Golf Course in Ely.
