With the conclusion of the state championship tournament, Battle Mountain High School ended its 2017-2018 basketball season. The Longhorns’ successful season established several student-athletes with an end of the year award.

During the zone and state tournaments, 2A league coaches met to discuss and cast a vote for players who represented their school at the highest level. BMHS boys and girls basketball teams made it to the state tournament and battled throughout the season, earning respect around the 2A league before the coaches voted on league awards.

The BMHS boys basketball ended its season at the state championship game inside Lawlor Events Center on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. The Longhorns claimed the state runner-up title after losing to the talented Democracy Prep Agassi Campus Blue Knights in the game.

The basketball team ended the season heavily represented after the all-league votes tallied. Northern 2A coaches selected Longhorn forward Chris Figueroa for first team all-league, and after the state tournament, the coaches voted him to the first team all-state team.

League coaches selected Miles Piramide and Mason Fuller for second team all-league, and made sure Longhorn center Reese Artz received recognition earning all-league honorable mention award. Some minor controversy discussed with Piramide missing out on making first team all-league by one vote, which eliminated him from any all-state honors.

The BMHS Lady Longhorns, who fell short of winning the zone championship by only three points, represented the school well during the all-league vote with four ladies selected for an award. Northern league coaches selected Longhorn point guard Sruti Bhakta as the Northern 2A Player of the Year.

The coaches also selected Grace Melver for the first team all-league, with Isabella DeAllah selected for second team all-league and senior Paige Ripley recognized with an all-league honorable mention award. The league coaches voted to make Lady Longhorns coach Paul Tremayne the Northern 2A League Coach of the Year.
