Between 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26 and 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, there were at least eight crashes around the Winnemucca area, according to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jim Stewart. They were all related to the icy/snow-covered roads.
The biggest crash occurred in the westbound lane of Interstate 80 around mile-marker 214, about 15 miles west of Battle Mountain (25 miles east of Winnemucca).
According to Stewart, a semi-truck was traveling westbound when the vehicle lost traction on the icy road and overturned.
The wreck, which occurred around 7 a.m. Feb. 27, closed both westbound lanes for over two hours, Stewart said.
There were no injuries.
