SPRING CREEK — The 9,10,11 year old Winnemucca Little League all-stars have finally ended their season.
The tournament was held in Spring Creek this year. They had a long run in the double-elimination tournament but in the end, Ruby Mountain had their number.
The boys took on White Pine in Spring Creek on Friday June 22 and cruised to a 13-0 victory.
The next day they returned to Spring Creek to play Ruby Mountain. Ruby Mountain sent Winnemucca to the loser’s bracket with a 15-5 loss in five innings.
On Sunday, the Winnemucca all-stars took on White Pine again and won, thus eliminating White Pine from the tournament.
Monday brought a contest with Elko. Winnemucca won a 27-21 slugfest, eliminating Elko and cashing its ticket to the championship game.
Unfortunately for the Winnemucca all-stars, they had to play Ruby Mountain again and they would have to beat them twice in order to go on to the next level of play.
Winnemucca went three up and three down in the top of the first inning, while Ruby Mountain scored three runs in the bottom half to jump out to an early lead. Ruby Mountain never looked back from there, ending the game after just three and a half innings by a final score of 11-0.
The boys played five games in as many days, in addition to travelling back and forth to Spring Creek to participate in the tournament.
