The 8,9,10 year old Winnemucca Little League All Stars played Silverada (Dayton) in Elko on Friday night. Despite a strong start, the boys lost to Silverada 16-6 in five innings.
Winnemucca scored five runs in the top of the second inning to take the lead 5-0, only to give up six runs in the bottom of the inning.
Winnemucca could never regain the lead in the game, despite many strong hits and good base running.
Manager Will Hall could be heard coaching and encouraging his squad throughout the game. “Down and ready, plays at first.” “Just lean back and throw.” “Good play guys, that’s the way we do it.”
On Saturday the boys battled Walker River (Yerington) in their second game of the tournament.
Despite nearly doubling their run production from the previous game, the boys came up just short, losing 11-12.
This being their second loss in this double elimination tournament, the season is now over for the 8-10 year old guys.
