There are few things in life better than enjoying a round of golf on a warm summer day.

A junior golf summer camp is being held at the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

The first session was held this past Wednesday and the second will be June 27. The camps help bring the point home to Winnemucca youths of the basics of putting, chipping and full swing are being reviewed, as well as the etiquette of golf.

Head golf pro at the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course Joey Dendary is running the camp.

“We have about 40 kids here, which is down a little bit from last year,” said Dendary. “The main thing we are trying to teach kids out here is basically to have fun, and to know the basics of golf, etiquette and make sure everybody stays safe.”

Kids ages 6-17 will participate on both days of the camp. The 6-10 year olds are scheduled from 8:30 — 10 a.m. and 11-17 year olds will go from 10 — 1:30 a.m. The price of the camp is $20 and includes both sessions.

“I wanted to come to golf camp to get practice and to get better at it,” said camper Katelyn Cassinelli.

Byron Jimenez echoed a similar sentiment when he quipped, “I just wanted to get better at golf, improve a lot and have a lot of fun out here.”

Caden Montero came to golf camp because he has never golfed before.

“My mom brought it up, and I decided to try it,” he said.

“Starting July 11 is the tournament series; it’s open to juniors 7-17 years old,” Dendary added. “There will be five more tournaments after that, every Wednesday. Cost is $15 if you don’t have a season pass, if you do have a season pass it’s $5.”
