Winnemucca all-stars head to Elko, Spring Creek

Little League baseball all-stars in Winnemucca have been chosen by the coaches of the league and are practicing now. The kids will be competing in District 3 tournaments in one of four different cities, depending upon their ages.

The winner of each tournament will then compete in the state tournament in Carson City on July 18.

The 8,9,10 year olds will play Silverada (Dayton) in Elko on Friday at 5:30 p.m. High Desert (Fernley) and Ruby Mountain (Spring Creek) play in the other first-round game on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

If Winnemucca beats Silverada, they will play Elko at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. However, a loss moves Winnemucca to the loser’s bracket and a 8 a.m. game on Sunday. The High Desert/Ruby Mountain winner plays Walker River (Yerington) on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

The tournament runs through Wednesday, June 27 with the championship game at 7:30 p.m. If needed, a second title game will be played on Thursday, June 28.

The 8, 9, 10-year-old team includes, manager Will Hall, coaches Tom Heikkila and Donovan Walker and players, Pete Bengochea, Isaiah Chavez, Taevyan Grau, Michael Heikkila, Maddex Hislop, Elijah Lange, Preston Mayhew, Landon Odoms, Connor Peterson, Logan Pointon, Jace Sartor, Erick Valencia and Donovan Walker.

The Winnemucca 9,10,11-year-olds will travel to Spring Creek beginning on Friday and will face White Pine in its first game. If Winnemucca wins they will play Ruby Mountain on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. If Winnemucca loses, they will play on Saturday at 9 a.m. against North Eastern Nevada or Elko. Those two teams play on Friday at 5 p.m.

The championship game is set for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.. If needed, a second championship game will be played Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The 9, 10, 11-year-olds include manager Brad Bauman, coaches Matt Growcock and Josh Lange and players Kaleb Arrington, Jake Bauman, Txema Bengochea, Angus Boyles, Edgar Duarte, Joseph Esquibel, ReiCyan Grau, Zaq Growcock, Jhett Harber, Gabe Lange, Bryce Niblack, James Putvain and Aidan Tregellas.
