Madison Jensen is “trying to create a new culture of competitive swimming in our community.”
The former Lowry High swimmer coaches about 30 kids each in Battle Mountain and Winnemucca. High Desert Aquatics is designed to be much more than just swimming lessons. Jensen is trying to develop kids that learn discipline and structure not only in the pool, but in life.
“I know that competitive swimming helped me become a better person and I am trying to share my experience with these kids,” Jensen said.
High Desert Aquatics is designed to develop a passion and a lifetime commitment to the sport of swimming through teamwork, life skills and family support.
High Desert Aquatics is a year-round competitive swim team that provides high-quality coaching. The coaches have a combined total of more than 80 years of swimming experience, including NCAA Division 1 swimming experience.
In addition, Jensen noted that High Desert Aquatics is now offering a Masters Swim Team for anyone 19 years or older looking to improve their swimming skills and get a workout from an experienced coach.
High Desert Aquatics is running a summer special rate for new customers.
Prices are based on entry-level swimming ability. Three months of membership is priced as follows. Novice $185, Junior $205, Senior $225. The membership amount includes facility usage fee, required insurance and coaching. Practice hours vary by level, usually in the early evening.
The team typically attends one meet per month. High Desert Aquatics has already had four students qualify for the Junior Olympics. Jensen noted that they offer a pre-competitive rate of $15 for 30 minutes of one on one instruction. Packages are available also, six sessions for $75, 10 sessions for $120.
