Boyd Wilks, 71, of Winnemucca, Nevada, passed away from illness related causes, July 22, 2018.
He was born June 6, 1947 to Dawson and Evelyn Wilks in Tooele, Utah.
He married Dema Arnold in 1968. His whole life was spent moving around. He grew up in Paris, Idaho, then moved to Bancroft, Idaho, after that he lived in Cobalt, Idaho. He then went to Salmon, Idaho, and then over to Soda Springs, Idaho. He then found himself serving for the United States Marine Corp. He then served two tours in Vietnam on the front lines. He served in the Marines for three years, then went and served in the United States Air Force for nineteen years. He moved to many different bases through the course of his career. It began in Barstow, California for two years; Spokane, Washington for two years; Fairbanks, Alaska for three years; Sohrm, Germany for a little over three years; St. Ives, England for four years; Abilene, Texas for six years; Saudi Arabia for four years; Phoenix, Arizona for two years and he retired to Soda Springs, Idaho and then moved to Winnemucca, Nevada where he resided for twenty-five years. He was also stationed in North Carolina and Oklahoma. While he was in the Air Force he worked as an airplane mechanic.
Boyd Wilks loved woodworking, fishing, hunting, mechanics and most importantly spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and soon to be great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Dema Arnold Wilks of Winnemucca, Nevada, his son James Boyd Wilks of Fernley, Nevada; his two daughters, Peggy (Rodnie) Petersen of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; Michelle Wilks of Winnemucca, Nevada; 7 grandchildren Aaron Petersen of Ovid, Idaho; Chance Wilks of Fernley, Nevada; Austin Petersen of Pocatello, Idaho; Vincent Wilks of Fernley, Nevada; Michaela Wilks of Winnemucca, Nevada; Brayden Wilks of Winnemucca, Nevada; Alyssa Petersen of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. He had an unborn great-grandchild on the way. Boyd Wilks is also survived by two brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law; Doug Braun of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; Randy Arnold of Riverton, Wyoming; Jo Meyers of Riverton, Wyoming; Debbie Trimmer of Sparks, Nevada; Alice Redding of Lander, Wyoming; Carla Arnold of Lander, Wyoming and many nieces and nephews.
Boyds’ recognized pallbearers include: Aaron Petersen, Chance Wilks, Austin Petersen, Vincent Wilks, Brayden Wilks, Zac Wagon and Roger Wagon.
Memorial services will be held on Monday July 30 at 10 a.m. at the Lava Hot Springs Community Church (118 W. Elm St.) Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Family and friends of Boyd are welcome to a luncheon following the memorial.
