Thirty junior golfers braved the heat on Wednesday at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course as they participated in the Flex Fitness junior golf tournament.

The mercury may have been rising, but the scores were definitely getting lower as the kids rounded the course.

The golfers enjoyed a snack and a quick activity on every tee box, a nice treat on a hot summer day.

“I have played in four tournaments this year and I have been golfing for six years now,” Marquette Cassinelli said. “I like driving the best, it’s fun.”

In the boy’s 10 and under division, Txema Bengochea shot a scorching 39 for the win, while Katelyn Cassinelli took the girls title with a 52.

Jaden Jimenez won the boys 11-12 category shooting 49,and Presley Hayes carded a 72 in the girls division.

Txendoa Cabatbat has been working on his game and has a new goal in mind.

“I’m online with everything else, I just have to work on my speed on putting,” he quipped.

The boys 13-14 winner was Angelo Bidart, who scored a 48, and Marquette Cassinelli was the girls winner with a 70.

Dillon Patterson took the boys 15-17 year-old title with an 81, while Angelina Martinez posted a 99 to take the girls crown.

“I like golf because you can use different clubs,” Logan Pointon mused. “In baseball you can only use one bat. In golf you get to use irons, wedges, drivers and all kinds of different stuff.”

He finished with, “I want to hit a 40 today."
