The “King of the Hill” competition returned to the Good Times Drag Strip last Friday and Saturday July 20-21.
The 1/8 mile track with a state of the art wireless timing system attracted racers from several states to compete for cash and bragging rights.
Steve Wasinger is the President of the Northern Nevada Racing Association (NNRA).
“This is the first “King of the Hill” we have had at this track, we used to do it downtown," said Wasinger “We are giving away $2,500 in that race tonight.”
The “King of the Hill” pits all three classes of racers against each other to see who is the fastest, so anyone is eligible to win the big bucks.
Butch Ranson from Reno was at the strip and explained why he comes here to race.
“I love the town, the country and the people in Winnemucca,” Ranson gushed. “It’s a great strip here, and I’ll really get amped up if my car goes straight in these two time trials. If it doesn’t work this time, we’ll still have fun shooting the bull with all our friends.”
Volunteers are needed for the next event being held August 3-5. Details and all racing results can be found at Nnrace.com.
