Chamoures named new safeties coach at Nevada

RENO — Nevada football coach Jay Norvell announced today that he is elevating Mike Chamoures within the Wolf Pack’s coaching staff and that Chamoures will coach safeties for the team in 2018.

David Lockwood, the veteran defensive backs coach who joined the team earlier this year, will oversee the secondary for the Wolf Pack and will coach cornerbacks.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Chamoures as a full-time member of our coaching staff for the 2018 season,” Norvell said. “Mike is an intelligent young coach who has earned the respect of many of our players with his experience and understanding of our defensive system.”

Chamoures joined the Wolf Pack staff in 2017 as a defensive quality control coach. He coached in 2016 at Southern Connecticut State and spent three years before that at West Virginia Wesleyan as the offensive coordinator.

He has ties with Nevada defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel, having spent two seasons as a student assistant and two more as a graduate assistant with Casteel at West Virginia. The pair worked together for another year at Arizona in 2012.

“I’m very grateful to Coach Norvell and Coach Casteel for the opportunity and look forward to playing a bigger role in building the program,” Chamoures said.”

Chamoures earned his undergraduate degree in Athletic Coaching Education from West Virginia University in 2009. He went on to earn his master’s degree in Athletic Coaching Education, also from West Virginia in 2012.
