Junior golfers aged 6-17 enjoyed another round on the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course at the twentieth annual “Herzog” Junior Golf Tournament held Wednesday. Despite the temperature being in the 90s, twenty-three boys and girls braved the heat to battle their peers.

Tatyana Carlson only needed 74 strokes on 18 holes to secure the overall title in the 15-17 category. Kobe Stoker (84) came in first in the boy’s 15-17.

In the 13-14 class, Cal Peters (53) took the boy’s title and Marquette Cassinelli (77) won the girl’s title.

Landon Esquivel (46), a first-time Junior Golf Tournament participant, carded an eagle on the Par 5 fourth hole on his way to bringing home the 11-12 age group win.

Txema Bengochea (43) and Katelyn Cassinelli (59) emerged victorious in the 10 and under class.

Trenton Mullis played in the tournament and commented, “I came out today to have fun and play golf. It’s one of my hobbies and I really love it.”

“This is my third year playing in the junior tournaments,” he added.

“Some of the younger golfers will ask me things, like what club they should hit and how their putt is going to break.”

Trenton’s father Russ Mullis was also on hand as a chaperone and volunteered, “He (Trenton) will play golf every chance he gets. I’ve had Trenton out on the golf course since he was four and he’s 12 now.”

These tournaments will occur every Wednesday for the next four weeks and will start at 9 a.m. For more information about the tournaments or to register your child, contact Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course at 775-623-9920, or go to winnemuccagolfcourse.com.
