The Winnemucca Junior Little League all-stars played on Thursday, July 5, and Friday, July 6, in Yerington for the right to represent District 3 in the state tournament. Winnemucca took on Silverada (Dayton) on Thursday,July 5, losing 10-2. It was a tight game going into the bottom of the sixth inning at 3-2, when Silverada came to the plate for their turn at bat. Silverada turned it on at that point, scoring seven runs. In the other game played on July 5, High Desert (Fernley) lost to Walker River 10-6, giving them a date with Winnemucca on Friday, July 6. Winnemucca matched up with High Desert on July 6, in the loser’s bracket, only to see their season come to an end when they lost 17-6. In the winner’s bracket game on July 6, Walker River defeated Silverada 11-1 giving them the advantage in the double-elimination tournament. Silverada stayed alive in the tournament by defeating High Desert 8-7 on Saturday, July 7, ending High Desert’s season. On Sunday, Walker River beat Silverada to knock them out of contention and claim the District 3 Junior championship. Walker River will compete in the state tournament in Carson City starting July 19.
