Obituary: Afton Nicole Staton

Afton Nicole Staton, 17, of West Des Moines, died on Monday, June 25, 2018 as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident.

Afton was born October 22, 2000 in Ames, IA to Douglas Staton III and Sureyya Forkner. She lived in Story City, IA, Lancaster, VA, Creston, IA and West Des Moines.

Afton was very musical, playing the guitar, ukulele, and piano, and singing. She was a member of the Valley High Color Guard and the Valley Marchmasters. Afton loved children, especially her nephew Archie, and she worked at the Learning Loft Child Care Center in West Des Moines.

Afton was a happy, vibrant person with an infectious sense of humor. She definitely marched to the beat of her own drum. She touched so many people in her brief time with us, and she will truly be missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Afton is survived by her parents, Sureyya and Ali Raza of West Des Moines and Doug and Cheri Staton of Battle Mountain, NV, her sisters, Sarah (Dylan) Martin,Jennifer Staton and Zainab Raza, her brothers, Zia and Zane Raza, her grandparents, Bob and Marcia Hundley of Creston, IA and Doug and Barbara Staton of Topping, VA, her nephew, Archie, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 2, from 5 to 8 pm at Mclaren’s Resthaven Funeral Chapel, 801 19th St., West Des Moines.
