Obituary: Dolores Larragueta

Dolores Larragueta passed away on January 12, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, reuniting her with her beloved husband, Harold.

Dee was born on January 13, 1932 in Winnemucca, Nevada to Steve and Henrietta Martinez. She was oldest child to sisters Marie Parks and Rosalie Moser.

Dee graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1950. In 1956, she married the love of her life, Harold Larragueta, also of Winnemucca. They had four children – Julie, Steve, Peter and Michael. Dee lovingly raised her children.

She loved Winnemucca and was involved in various clubs and activities. She could be found on the golf course nearly every day and was an active participant in the Winnemucca Ladies Club. Dee’s faith was expressed through her active role in the Roman Catholic Church as a parishioner of several churches during her lifetime, including St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Winnemucca, Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church in Reno and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palm Desert, CA.

After Harold’s retirement, Dee and Harold purchased a home in Palm Desert where they would winter. They made many new friends and loved being able to golf year round. It was a great second home and a place for family and friends to visit.

After Harold passed in 1991, Dee continued to winter in the desert but moved from Winnemucca to Reno to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She continued to actively golf as a member of Lakeridge and Washoe Golf Courses and enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in their activities over the years. In her later years, Dee bravely battled Alzheimer’s. With her family and amazing caregivers, Dan and Lynda Boone, who loved her like family, she never lost her smile and love for us all. Dee is survived by her children, Julie O’Gara (Tom) of Reno, Steve Larragueta (Kathy) of Concord, CA, Peter Larragueta (Julie) of Reno, Michael Larragueta (Elizabeth) of Reno, sister Rosalie Moser (Jim) of Orovada, nephew Ray Parks of Winnemucca, niece Annie Kelly (Dave) of Winnemucca as well as ten grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way. She was also preceded in death by her beloved sister Marie Parks, niece Dorinda Muguira and nephew Mike Muguira.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Winnemucca followed by a reception to be held at the Winnemucca Convention Center East Hall. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course or the Alzheimer’s Association in Dolores Larragueta’s name.
