Howard E. Harris 99 years old, Born October 16, 1918 — February 3, 2018

Howard E. Harris passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2018 with his granddaughter Heather Harris, great grandson Christopher and friend Ty by his side.

Howard was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Olive (Avery) Harris and Wendell O. Harris, the second of seven children.

The family moved to Naples, Idaho in 1931. Howard attended school in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where he graduated from high school in 1935.

He attended college at Eastern Washington University where he met the true love of his life, Lucienne (LeGros) Harris. They were married on July 3, 1939 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Howard enlisted in the Army during WWII on October 14, 1944 and served in the infantry in the Pacific arena until the end of WWII. He was honorably discharged on February 20, 1946.

Howard and Lucienne (Lou) raised three children: Shannon Harris Behrens, Terry A. Harris and Darryl M. Harris.

Howard’s passion for mining took the family on numerous adventures to several isolated locations.

Howard and Lou moved to Winnemucca in 1962 with sons Terry and Darryl to pursue a mining venture and stayed in Winnemucca for 55 years. Howard continued his mining ventures until 2012.

Lou taught school from 1962 until retiring in 1984 from Sonoma Heights Elementary School. Howard was a welcoming face and loyal employee at the Winnemucca Wal-Mart for six years. He truly enjoyed the customers and his fellow employees during those six years.

Howard is survived by daughter Shannon, son Darryl, brother Thomas (Peg) Harris, brother John (Leah) Harris, brother Oliver Harris, and grandchildren Heather S. Harris, Hannah A. Harris, Miranda Harris, and Rebecca Behrens, great grandchildren Monique Harris and eight others.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Lou, his son Terry and his granddaughter Desiree Terese Behrens. His two sisters Francis and Susan; brother Kenneth.

Howard Harris was a fascinating, kind and generous soul and will be missed deeply by his family, his extended family and his friends.

Services will be held Monday, February 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Winnemucca United Methodist Church, 138 W. Winnemucca Blvd., Winnemucca NV 89445.
