The McDermitt High School (MHS) girls basketball squad went to the Comstock Classic in Virginia City last week and dominated the competition.
On Thursday, Dec. 6, the Lady Bulldogs crushed Pahranagat Valley (Alamo) 50-11 in their second matchup of the season. MHS previously downed the Panthers 56-24 on Dec. 1 at the WREC Classic in Wells.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a first quarter lead of 9-4, and stretched it to 25-10 at the break. MHS held Pahranagat Valley to just one point in the third quarter, and kept them scoreless in the fourth. McDermitt added another 25 points in the second half while cruising to the win.
On Friday, Dec. 7, the Lady Bulldogs kept it rolling, as they took down Round Mountain 62-23 in their first contest of the day. The Lady Knights could only muster nine points in the first half and 14 in the second; MHS posted 31 in each.
The host team Virginia City did not fare much better against McDermitt in their second game of the day, losing 35-68. The Muckers could only compile 18 points in the first half and another 17 in the second. The Lady Bulldogs posted 36 in the first and added another 32 after the break for the resounding win.
On Saturday, Dec. 8, McDermitt had its closest game of the weekend, taking out Battle Mountain 50-44. The Longhorns kept it close until halftime, 12-18, but the Lady Bulldogs pulled away in the third quarter and did not look back on their way to their seventh victory of the year.
Precious Masters is leading McDermitt with a scoring average of 28.3 points a game as well as 13.3 rebounds a game.
McDermitt headed to the Crane Christmas tournament in Crane, Ore. on Friday, Dec. 14 to take on North Lake (Silver Lake, OR); results of the contests were not available at press time.
Today (Saturday), they will continue tournament play against an opponent to be determined.
Before the end of the year, the Lady Bulldogs head to California for the West Coast Jamboree from Dec. 27-29.
McDermitt opens 2019 at Rimrock, Idaho, on Jan. 5.
