The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team picked up three more this past weekend at the Comstock Classic in Virginia City and will begin league play with a 6-2 record.
BMHS holds off Coleville
Battle Mountain took on Coleville, Calif., last Thursday and held off the Wolves in the fourth quarter for a 39-38 win.
The Lady Longhorns out-scored the Wolves 13-8 in the first quarter and led 22-20. Battle Mountain took a seven-point advantage into the fourth quarter, when Coleville rallied but it was not enough to come back.
Grace Melver paced Battle Mountain with 12 points and eight rebounds. Brooke Ripley added nine points and and Kaybrie Nield added six points and five rebounds.

In its first game last Friday, Battle Mountain routed Pahranagat Valley 50-9.
Ripley out-scored the Panthers by herself with 14 points. Melver equaled Pahranagat Valley’s total with nine and Kira Smith added seven points.
Battle Mountain beats Sierra Lutheran
In the second game on Friday, Battle Mountain had another easy game and cruised past Sierra Lutheran 46-12.
The Lady Longhorns led 10-2 after a quarter of play and extended thee margin to 22-5 at halftime. Battle Mountain further pulled away after the break with a 15-1 run in the third quarter.
Melver equaled the Falcons’ total with 12 points to go with eight rebounds. Ripley added nine points and Sruti Bhakta had seven points, six assists and five steals.
Bulldogs knock off Lady Longhorns
Battle Mountain closed out the tournament with a 50-40 loss to McDermitt on Saturday,
Battle Mountain struggled on offense in the first quarter with four points and trailed 18-12 at halftime.
McDermitt scored came out in the third quarter with 18 points and pulled away for the win.
Melver had 14 points and nine rebounds and Bhakta added nine points and five assists.
“We had a good weekend.” said BMHS coach Paul Tremayne. “The girls played hard. We head into league play next week. Kids are excited about that. We need to continue to shoot the ball better. We need to keep getting better defensively if we want to be successful.”
Battle Mountain is back on the road to open play in the Northern 2A, starting Friday in West Wendover at 5 p.m. (6 p.m. MST). The Lady Longhorns visit White Pine on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Battle Mountain comes back home on Thursday, Dec. 20, to play North Tahoe at 6 p.m. Incline makes the trip to Battle Mountain on Friday, Dec, 21, at 6 p.m.
