Junior golf finished off their summer events at the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday with the Jeff Wade Memorial. Twenty-five kids competed with a goal of finishing off the summer strong.
Tatyana Carlson took the overall title for the day by shooting a 77.
“Golf helps get things off my mind,” Carlson admitted.
Dillon Patterson took the boys 15-17 title with an 83, Kobe Stoker came in second (91).
In the boys 13-14 category, Cal Peters carded a 51 for the win, while Tristan Cassinelli finished second (63). Bailey Hayes posted a 71 to win the girls 13-14 year-old division..

“My dad works here in Winnemucca, so I’m playing in this tournament while I’m here visiting him," she said. "I’m going to be a sophomore this year and I play on the team in Reno.” “Golf is a mental sport,” she continued. “Last year we didn’t make it to regionals as a team, but I made it to state as an individual. Hopefully this year we can make it to regionals as a team, and I want to make it to state again."
Landon Esquivel won the boys 11-12 year-old trophy with a 45, and Txema Bengochea finished second (47).
Presley Hayes took top honors in the girls 11-12 year-old category with a 69.
“This is my third tournament this year, I just started golfing this summer,” said Edan Masterman (9). “I like putting the best, getting lots of balls in the holes.”
The boys 10 and under title was secured by Byron Jimenez who scored 44 and Luis Mendoza came in second (54). Katelyn Cassinelli took the girls 10 and under win with a 52.
