Junior golf returned to the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course Wednesday for the Doc Verner Memorial Golf Tournament.
Temperatures pushed into the 90s as the golfers worked their way around the course.
Kobe Stoker took the boys 15-17 title by shooting an 82, with Max Mavity (96) garnering second.
“I think golf is like life,” Stoker said. “You can be having a great hole and the next one can be the worst. In life you can have a great day, and the next one can be rough sometimes.”
In the boys 11-12 category, Landon Esquivel carded a 45 for the win, while Txema Bengochea (48) came in second. Marquette Cassinelli posted a 71 to win the girls 13-14 event.
Jaden Jimenez played in the tournament and volunteered.
“I like golf because you get to come out here and have fun trying to beat your last score, you can play against yourself," Jimenez said. “I like chipping and putting. You drive for show but you putt for dough."
The boys 10 and under title was secured by Byron Jimenez, who shot a 53 and Jaidon Crutcher (65)came in second.
Katelyn Cassinelli took the girls 10 and under win with a 55.
“I’ve golfed for about two years,” said golfer Colton Mills. “My friends from my town (Battle Mountain) were talking about this tournament, so I decided to come today.”
The final Junior Golf Tournament of the summer will be held next Wednesday.
