The Lowry High School girls soccer team held a week-long camp from Aug. 6-10 at the LHS soccer field.
The sessions were held from 6-8 p.m. each night and drew around 30 youngsters.
"We are teaching these younger kids different skill levels, according to their age, to give them a little head start when they go into the AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) program,.” said LHS girls soccer coach Ed Partee. “The camp is something that we have been doing with the high school program for several years now, it acts as a fundraiser for the high school team.”
Zoe Stein (4) attended the camp.
“I like to play soccer, you get to go kick balls around,” she said.
LHS senior Danielle Terou was one of the helpers at the camp. “This soccer camp lets kids socialize with others who have the same interests and you can learn new techniques,” she said.
When asked the one thing that kids could work on by themselves to improve their game after the camp ends, Partee confided,"One of the big things that I see as a high school coach with the kids coming out of AYSO is that a lot of the kids don’t know how to kick with both feet. It is vital that everybody knows how to kick with both feet."
