Battle Mountain fall sports season ready to get going

Even though the calendar just turned to August, fall sports is under way at Battle Mountain High School.

The Longhorns football team hit the field at the first of the month with heat acclimation practices. Battle Mountain will have plenty of time to get ready for its season opener on Friday, Aug. 24, in Lincoln County. Battle Mountain opens the Northern 2A season on Friday, Aug. 31, in Silver Stage against Silver Springs.

The Longhorns will host a scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. and will feature a handful of teams from around northern Nevada.

Battle Mountain’s official home opener is Friday, Sept, 7, against Coral Academy of Reno. During the year, the Longhorns will host White Pine (Sept. 21), American Falls, Idaho, (Sept. 28), Yerington (Oct. 12) and Incline (Oct. 25).

Battle Mountain has additional road games with West Wendover (Sept. 14), North Tahoe (Oct. 6) and Pershing County (Oct. 19).

The remainder of the fall sports can begin on Saturday and includes volleyball, boys soccer, girls soccer and girls golf.

The boys and girls soccer teams will begin their season on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 in Ely at the White Pine tournament. The regular season begins on Sept 7-8 with matches against Fernley and Yerington in Battle Mountain.

The Battle Mountain volleyball team will be in Yerington on Aug. 24-25 for a two-day tournament. The Lady Longhorns return home to host their annual tournament on Aug. 31-Sept. 1,

The Northern 2A season starts on Feb. 7-8 with matches against West Wendover and White Pine in Battle Mountain.
