Robert (Niel) Nielsen Haera II
September 18, 1944 — April 4, 2018
Niel Haera, 73, life long resident of Livermore, CA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born to Robert (Bob) and Belmeda (Bubbles) Haera in Shoemaker, CA at the U.S. Navy Hospital.
He grew up in Livermore attending St. Michaels School before graduating from Livermore High School where he lettered in baseball and football.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. After getting out of the Navy he met and married the love of his life Sharon Basso.
He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Belmeda along with his aunts Isabel Gardella, Madeline Henry and Dorothy (Haera) Boughtin.
Niel is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Sharon, brother Ray Haera, Swan Lake, MT, cousins Bob (Georgia) Henry and Bruce Henry of Livermore, Tom Henry of Capitola and Janice McCarthy of San Anselmo, loving in-laws Dave and Susan Cerini of Lovelock, NV and many beautiful nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a host of life-long friends.
Niel belonged to the Native Sons of the Golden West Parlor #96 and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 595 for 48 years.
He was also a stockholder in the Livermore Stockman’s Rodeo Association, a member of the Antique Stove Association and Alameda County Farm Bureau.
He loved spending time at the family cabin in the Livermore Hills with family and friends. He had a passion for collecting antiques and rust. He was an avid collector of old wood stoves and loved restoring them.
He spent many decades hunting out of state with Sharon, family members and good friends.
