A handful of Lowry High School track and field athletes were in Reno last Saturday for the Northwest Invite at McQueen High School.
The Lady Bucks’ Rachel Garrison took home the discus title by more than 10 feet. The junior had a toss of 121 feet, 4 inches. Spanish Springs’ Alycia Flora was second at 111-7. The nearest 3A competitor was seventh at 98-10.
Garrison placed fourth in the shot put at 32-1.75. She was the highest finishing athlete from the 3A. Reno’s Ballie Myler won the event at 33-10.
Fellow junior Becca Kuskie collected the runner-up spot in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5 minutes, 1.17 seconds. Reno’s Penelope Smerdon won the race at 4:59.36.
Kuskie placed fourth in the 3,000 meters in a time of 11:26.37 and South Tahoe’s Carissa Buchholz won at 10:54.91.
The Lady Bucks tied for ninth as a team with 28 points. McQueen took home the team title with 118 points and Reed (101) was second. Reno (89), Douglas (88) and Damonte Ranch (63) rounded out the top five. Bishop Manogue, Churchill County and Galena tied for sixth with 34 points.
On the boys side, Will Kracaw finished eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:55.09 and was 13th in the 1,500 meters at 4:26.12. Scottie Smith was ninth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-9 and the Buckaroo junior was 26th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.00.
Bryan Day (10-6) and Colby Terry (10-0) were 11th and 12th, respectively, in the pole vault and Eddie Sanchez placed 24th in the shot put with a toss of 36-3.50.
Reed won the boys championship with 183.50 points and Spanish Springs was second at 80.5. Lowry was 18th with one point.
The Buckaroos head to Carson City on Saturday for the Carson Invitational.
