With the season quickly coming to an end, the Battle Mountain High School boys golf team is starting to peak at the right time.
The Longhorns had their full squad back on the course as they traveled to Jackpot on Wednesday, April 11. Battle Mountain shot its second-best score of the year at 402 to place fifth as a team.
Brody Young shot a 90 to lead the Longhorns to place sixth overall. He tied for fifth with another golfer but lost out on the scorecard tie-breaker.
Teammates Alex Lopez (98) and Jimmy Harris (99) also broke 100 on the day. Avry Tucker had the last kept score at 115 for the Longhorns. Jake Smith (118) and Bradley Rogers rounded out the scores for Battle Mountain.
“This was our second best team score of the year and Brody shot a tournament career best tying for fifth place but losing in a scorecard playoff,” said BMHS coach Roger Wallock. “Lake Mead was up from the south so it was nice to see a good team from there and get an idea of what to expect from that league.”
Weather permitting, Battle Mountain will host its 2A tournament on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Golf Course.
Battle Mountain will make the short trip to Wells on Thursday, April 26, and close out the regular season in Lake Tahoe in the first weekend of May.
