The Battle Mountain track and field team returned to action last Friday at the Ward Coates Invitational in Elko.
Eddie Morfin showed once again he is one of the top throwers in the state, sweeping the shot put and discus events. The senior tossed the shot put 41 feet, 11 inches and the discus 136-8.25. The throw in the discus was a personal best.
Payton Ayers and teammate Ryan Manning each cleared 9-0 to lead the way in the pole vault. However, Ayers was awarded the top spot on fewer misses. For Manning, it was a career-best mark. In addition, Ayers was fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.85 seconds, a personal-best for the senor.
Cody Ostler placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 38-3.25 and was seventh in the long jump at 17-2.
Junior Austin Wilkins finished third in the 200 meters with a time of 25.16 to go with a sixth-place outing in the 100-meter dash at 12.16. Daegan McClary took home third place in the 400 meters with a time of 61.03 and ran the 100-meter dash in 13.18 and the 200 meters at 27.58.
Izaak Stahl (5-8) and DeAndre Powell (5-6) both set personal bests in the high jump and finished fourth and seventh, respectively. In addition, Powell was ninth in the long jump with a mark of 16-11. Freshman Isaiah Powell finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 17-8 for a personal-best mark and he placed eighth in the 800 meters at 2:36.12, also a personal best.
Jesse Edgar (35-9) and Tristin Cordingley (34-9.50) were fourth and sixth, respectively, in the shot put and Cordingley was sixth in the discus with a toss of 97-6.75. Michael Malone placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 31-5.5 and the junior was 11th in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:44.96.
Freshman Declan McClary finished eighth in the 3,200 meters in a time of 13:13.84 and he ran the 1,600 meters at 6:05.28. Michael Ingram placed seventh in the 200 meters, stopping the clock at 26.91 for a personal-best time.
The 4x100 (47.66) and 4x200 (1:41) relay teams claimed first place, the 4x400 (3:52.96) was second and the 4x800 (10:26.96) relay placed fourth.
On the girls side, Mary Wolters and Esma Chemo were second and third in the shot put. Wolters had a throw of 25-2 and Chemo landed at 24-3. Wolters placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 77-1.50 for a personal best and Chemo was seventh at 76-8.25.
Freshman Anahi Lopez was 10th in the shot put to go with a throw of 57-2.75 in the discus. Kynndra Penson notched a 10th-place finish in the long jump with mark of 11-1 and the sophomore ran the 100-meter dash at 16.25.
Freshman Kailee Wolters had times of 15.84 (100 meters), 34.03 (200 meters) and 7:38.96 in the 400 meters for the Lady Longhorns.
Fellow freshman Giovanna Ortiz set personal bests in the shot put (16-1) and the discus (45-5.50). Valentina Garcia set a personal best in the discus with a throw of 44-5.75 and Adriene Burkhart had throws of 31-6 in the discus and 15-6 in the shot put.
