Buckaroos fall in series finale to Indians, now 6-6 in league

The Lowry High School baseball team closed out its series with Elko on Tuesday with a 15-0 loss to the Indians. The contest had to be made up after getting postponed due to weather last Saturday.

It was a rough day for the Buckaroos, who committed seven errors on defense, while picking up just two hits. Both of those hits came in the first inning. Brendan Domire led off with a single and Ridge Ricketts also singled but they were left stranded on base.

Elko used a double and single in back-to-back at bats in the first inning to lead 1-0 and never looked back. The Indians tacked on seven runs in the second inning on just three hits. All seven Lowry errors occurred in the second inning.

The Indians ended the game in the third inning on the 15-run mercy rule with seven more runs. Just one out was recorded in the frame before the contest ended. Elko had just four hits, as Lowry pitchers walked three batters and hit two more.

The Buckaroos dropped all three games of the series to fall to 6-6 in the Northern 3A and 7-10 overall. Lowry is currently tied for fourth in the Northern 3A with South Tahoe.

Elko leads the league at 9-1 and is followed by Churchill County (11-2) and Truckee (9-3). Spring Creek (5-8), Dayton (4-9) and Fernley (3-7) are sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.

The top six teams qualify for the regional championships in Fernley on May 10-12.

Lowry will look to move closer to a playoff berth when it hosts Dayton this weekend. A single game is set for Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
