Lowry, McDermitt get back to action after quick spring break

With spring break coming to an end this week, Lowry and McDermitt high schools begin the final push in the spring sports season.

Weather permitting, the Lowry varsity and baseball and softball teams will be in Elko this weekend for a three-game series with the Indians.

Another round of wet weather is forecasted for northern Nevada this weekend.

Elko and Lowry moved their doubleheader to Friday and will play a single game on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Lowry softball team will travel to Fernley on Wednesday to make up the last game in that series. The original game was postponed on March 16.

The Buckaroo baseball and softball teams will be back home on April 13 and 14 to take on Dayton.

The Northern 3A Regional Championship is set for May 10-12 at Fernley High School. The top six teams qualify for the regional tournament.

The top two teams receive first-round byes. Currently, both the Lowry baseball and softball teams would make the postseason.

After a week off, the Lowry track and field team will split up once again. One group will be in Fernley next Friday for the Fernley Invitational. Another, will be in Reno on Saturday, April 14, for the Northwest Invitational at McQueen High School.

Following those two meets, there are only three meets left in the regular season. The Buckaroos will host their invitational on Saturday, May 5. The regional championships take place May 11-12. The NIAA State Championships will be May 18-19 at Carson High School in Carson City.

The Lowry swim team will be busy until the season is over. The Buckaroos are back in Reno on Friday, April, 13. The Buckaroos travel to Reno (April 21), Truckee (April 28) and Carson City (May 4). The JV championships will be held Tuesday, may 8 in Reno.

The Northern 3A Regional Championships are set for May 11-12 in Carson City. The top three finishers in each event qualify for the NIAA State Championships on Saturday, May 19, on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas.

It seems the Lowry golf team played months ago. The Buckaroos were last on the course in a competitive way on March 13 in Fernley. Lowry’s home meet on March 21 was postponed and will be made up on Wednesday, April 25.

Lowry is off again next week and returns to action on Wednesday, April 18 and Thursday, April 19, in Elko and Spring Creek, respectively.

There is no regional tournament for the Northern 3A and three state tournament berths are base don the regular season point standings.

The NIAA State Championships will be played May 14-15 in Pahrump at Mountain Falls Golf Club.

The McDermitt track and field team will be in Crane, ore., om Friday, April 13, for the Rancher’s Invitational and in Burns, Ore., on Saturday, April 14, for the Arlie Oster Memorial Invitational.

The Bulldogs will travel to Eureka (April 20), Nyssa, Ore., (April 27) and Winnemucca (May 5) to close out the regular season.

The regional championships take place May 11-12. The NIAA State Championships will be May 18-19 at Carson High School in Carson City.
