Ostler, Thompson, Morfin win events at Elko Invitational

Battle Mountain’s Cody Ostler, Eddie Morfin and Cameron Thompson took home a pair of individual victories at the Elko Invitational last Friday in Elko.

Ostler led the way in the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 10.75 inches and was fourth in the long jump at 17-3.50. Morfin swept the throwing events, winning the discus with a toss of 128-4 and the shot put at 45-2.50. Thompson cleared 10-6 in the pole vault to win that event.

Jesse Edgar earned the runner-up spot in the shot put with a throw of 39-10. In addition, Edgar had a throw of 87-1 in the discus and had a mark of 5-2 in the high jump. Izaak Stahl was second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-6 and Peyton Ayers (9-0) and Ryan Manning (8-6) were second and fifth, respectively in the pole vault. Ayers also cleared 4-10 in the high jump.

Tristin Cordingley finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 33-4 to go with a toss of 86-10 in the discus.

The 4x100 relay team finished third with a time of 47.71 and the 4x800 relay was fifth at 10:21.

On the girls side, Mary Wolters was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 26-11.25 and had a toss of 76-5 in the discus. Esma Cheno placed sixth in the discus at 82-2.50 to go with a throw of 25-7.50 in the shot put.

Jade Smith finished fifth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 6-6 and Smith had a jump of 12-9 in the long jump. In addition, Smith was eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 26-9.50.

Hania Amezcua had throws of 50-11 and 20-3.35 in the discus and shot put and Anahi Lopez threw the shot out 18-10 and discus 57-4. Valtenia Garcia (42-1), Adrienne Burkhart (39-2.50) and Daniela Rios (32-2) rounded out the discus throwers.

Morfin finishes fourth at Fallon Elks Invite

On Saturday, March 24, Battle Mountain traveled to Fallon for the Fallon Elks Invitational. Morfin finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 44-8.50. Thompson was 10th in the pole vault with mark of 10-6 and Ostler was 14th in the triple jump with a leap of 38-3.50.

Isaiah Powell finished 17th in the 400 meters with a time of 57.02.

On the girls side, Brooke Ripley was 18th in the pole vault at 6-6 and 19th in the triple jump with a mark of 28-4.50. Ripley also ran the 100-meter dash and 200 meters and was 29th in the 200 meters with a time of 29.54 and 39th in the 100 meters at 14.29.

Smith placed 25th in the triple jump with a leap of 25-9, was 31st in the 300-meter hurdles at 57.40 and was 37th in the long jump at 12-2.50. Kynndra Pearson finished 41st in the long jump with mark of 11-8.

Battle Mountain is off this weekend and will be back in action on Friday, April 13, for the Ward Coates Invitational.
