The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team battled back from an early hole against West Wendover at the Battle Mountain High School. The Wolverines were able to hold off the Longhorns late in the final rubber game of the evening.
On Friday, Sept. 22, the Lady Longhorns struggled early and were unable to get a single point until they were already down 12-0 in the first set. Isabella DeAllah stopped the run, but was unable to help the Lady Longhorns comeback in the opening game of the night. The Longhorns lost the first set 25-19, making a run late in the match.
In the second set, the Wolverines jumped out to an early lead, scoring five points by the first server for the team. The Lady Longhorns had to dig out of another hole and faced a long uphill comeback to leave the court victorious. West Wendover won the second set by a final score of 25-20, leaving Battle Mountain down two games in the best-of-five game series.
The Lady Longhorns battled in a back-and-forth volley with the Wolverines in the third set. Battle Mountain claimed the third set 25-23, forcing a fourth game. The fourth game wasn’t even close as the Longhorns led by Drue Domagala’s six consecutive points scored off her serves, helped the Lady Longhorns win by a score of 25-13.
The BMHS gym carried a noticeable buzz from the crowd at the two teams took the court one last time that night.
With the JV volleyball cheerleading from the stands for their varsity counterparts, the Lady Longhorns jumped out to an early 9-6 lead. Battle Mountain failed to maintain the lead, as the comeback fell short, losing the final set 15-12.
The Lady Longhorns were not done for the weekend, as they faced White Pine on Saturday The ladies were unable to take a set from White Pine losing the three games by the scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-14.
The Lady Longhorns travel to Pershing County in Lovelock on Saturday, hoping to get a big win against their long standing 2A league rival.
