The Lowry High School boys soccer team is going to have to wait a little bit longer to get its win over rival Spring Creek.
The two squads met in Winnemucca on Wednesday, under cold, dreary and windy conditions without a goal between them.
The Buckaroos and Spartans could not capitalize on their scoring chances, resulting in a 0-0 tie.
However, Lowry continues to hold on to the final playoffs spot in the Northern 3A top division at 2-2-1 and 6-2-1 overall.
“It was a game I wanted to win,” said LHS coach Steve Swanson. “We had a couple chances but just were not finishing. We were not making the last connecting pass. I think we played a little to centrally. We did not stretch their defense and we could not find the holes.”
Spring Creek had the best chance to score in the first 40 minutes, hitting a shot off the crossbar and bouncing away. Lowry’s Chris Schultz was busy in the goal, stopping a number of scoring chances.
“Chris played a great game,” Swanson said. “He was a big factor tonight.”
Spring Creek had another chance to get on the board in the 60th minute, but missed a penalty kick that went wide left of the net.
“I don’t know what it is with penalty kicks this year,” Swanson said. “We have had some good luck. I’m not sure if Chris is doing something to get them off their game or what.”
Lowry had scoring opportunities in the final 10 minutes, but shots from Oscar Juanes and Anthony Cuevas went wide of the net.
“Spring Creek has a solid defense and it was just enough to where we could not crack it,” added the coach. “It is still a point for us. We would have liked three though. We are getting there.”
Lowry hits the road on Wednesday to play Elko at 5 p.m. The Indians are currently 1-3-0 in league play. The Buckaroos make the trip to Truckee on Friday, Sept. 29, for a 5 p.m. match and return home on Saturday, Sept. 30, to play Sparks at noon.
