The Battle Mountain High School boys soccer team collected a win and tie on its home field this past weekend.
Battle Mountain cruised to a 5-1 victory over White Pine on Friday. Brody Young scored twice in the first 40 minutes of the match, while Kelvin Diaz added a goal to give the Longhorns a 3-1 lead.
Danny Diaz netted two goals in the final 40 minutes, to secure the win for the Longhorns.
Battle Mountain played to a 2-2 tie on Saturday against West Wendover.
Battle Mountain traveled to Yerington on Friday, Sept. 8, and beat the Lions 3-1. Young scored twice for Battle Mountain, including the opening goal 30 seconds into the contest. Alex Lopez also had a goal.
“This was our first league game and good win for us,” said first-year head coach Jorge Gonzalez. “Both teams played hard and there were some shots that hit the post on both sides. We haven't been able to beat them in a while. I am seeing improvement off and on the field everyday.”
Battle Mountain traveled to Winnemucca on Tuesday to play the Lowry JV and results were not available at press time.
Battle Mountain hosts Fernley on Thursday at 3 p.m. and Dayton on Friday at 3 p.m.
