Buckaroo boys soccer team earns first-ever win over Incline

Even though the Lowry High School boys soccer team has played just two matches on the Northern 3A schedule, it is light years ahead of last year.

The Buckaroos won only two games in the Northern 3A and three overall. The two victories were over a winless Churchill County team.

Lowry started its league schedule on a high note on Friday, Sept. 8, with a 2-1 win at Incline. It was the first victory over the Highlanders in school history.

“It was a great win for us,” said LHS coach Steve Swanson. “This was the first tough team we played this year and I wanted to see how we would react. We controlled much of the play, which was nice to see.”

Oscar Juanes provided the opening goal for the Buckaroos and Diego Gudino provided the eventual game-winning goal in the second half.

Incline cut the deficit to 2-1 late in the second half, but could not get any closer.

Lowry falls to

 North Tahoe

Lowry (2-1 Northern 3A, 6-1 overall) had an early wake-up call the next day for a match at North Tahoe at 9:45 a.m. The Lakers, who took part in the 2016 3A state tournament, won 7-0.

“That was a great team we played,” Swanson said. “We learned some things from it that we will use later in the year against a number of teams.

Lowry traveled to Fallon on Wednesday and beat the Greenwave 8-0. Lowry pulled away in the second half with six goals.

The Buckaroos are back home Saturday to take on South Tahoe at 2 p.m. Lowry remains in Winnemucca on Wednesday to play Spring Creek at 5 p.m.
