Volunteer firefighters risk life and limb to keep others safe. When they’re not fighting fires, they’re raising money so they can continue saving lives. On Sunday, The Bingo Engine Company sponsored the Rye Patch Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fund raiser at Gold Diggers Saloon.

Firefighters and their families threw horse shoes and tossed bean bags under the September sun.

The fire department raffled off a Park Pass, Reno Aces tickets and more. Firefighters grilled burgers, hot dogs, and Tri-tip for a crowd of supporters.

“Our mission is to come to the aid of our community whether it be fire or medical between mile marker 118 and 138 of I-80 and the area within (East and West),” says the RPVFD Facebook page. Funds will help pay for EMT and EMR courses, EMS conferences, and operation of the firehouse.

Tom Helms is the fire chief. Staci Bristow is the assistant chief.

“The turnout was great, and we are truly humbled by the support,” said Bristow.
