The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team got off to a good note last weekend, opening Northern 3A play with a 7-5 win at Yerington on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Longhorns’ Abbie Okrzesik had four goals on the day and teammate Sruti Bhakta added a hat trick of her own with three goals. Liliana Chavez had two assists.
“It was a good win for us,” said BMHS coach David Marz. “We canceled out on the White Pine tournament and we are behind in match play. It showed and we will be working to improve our defense.”
Battle Mountain was scheduled to play Whittell on Saturday, but Mother Nature did not allow it. Lightning storms in the Lake Tahoe area forced the match to be postponed. It will be made up a later date.
The Lady Longhorns took on the Elko JV on Tuesday and results were not available at press time. Battle Mountain hosts White Pine on Friday at noon and West Wendover on Saturday at 11 a.m.
