The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team began its slate of Northern 2A matches this past weekend at home against Lake Tahoe schools.
Incline made the trek across Interstate 80 on Saturday and beat the Lady Longhorns 25-7, 25-17 and 25-19.
Incline scored for of the first five points in the first set, when Isabella Deallah stopped the run with an ace. Battle Mountain closed the gap to two points at 6-4 early in the set, but that was as close as the Lady Longhorns got. The Highlanders went on a 16-1 run and scored 12 points in a row to take a 22-5 lead. Battle Mountain’s Drue Domagala had an ace late in the set, but the Lady Longhorns could not overcome the deficit, as the Highlanders scored the final point on an ace of their own.
It appeared Incline was going to run away with the second set as well, scoring seven of the first nine points. Marissa Rogers ended the Highlander spurt with a kill and the Lady Longhorns eventually closed the gap to 11-9.
Incline regained the momentum with eight consecutive points to go in front 19-9 and force Battle Mountain to take a timeout. The Lady Longhorns were able to rally and close the gap to 24-17, but the Highlanders won the set on the next point.
Rogers and Deallah provided kills for the Lady Longhorns in the third set to keep within striking distance of the Highlanders. Battle Mountain closed the gap to 9-7 midway through the set, only to see Incline go on a 10-5 run to extend the margin to 19-12.
A tip by Marbella Dias brought the Lady Longhorns within six points at 19-13. Battle Mountain trimmed the gap to 22-19, but Incline scored the final three points to win the match.
Lady Longhorns fall to Lakers
Battle Mountain hosted North Tahoe on Friday and dropped a four-set match to the Lakers.
The Lady Longhorns won the first set 25-22, but could not keep the momentum going, as the Lakers won set two and three 25-12 and 25-23. The fourth set was much closer, but North Tahoe held on to win 25-23.
Battle Mountain (0-2 Northern 2A) makes its way to Lyon County this weekend for a pair of matches. The Lady Longhorns take on Silver Stage on Friday at 5 p.m. and Yerington on Saturday at 11 a.m.
