After waiting an extra week to get on the field, the Lowry High School freshmen football team gave its home fans an exciting finish this past Friday night against Spring Creek.
Defense was the name of the game of the first half, as both teams struggled to put points on the board. Lowry got on the scoreboard at the end of the first half as the clock expired.
The Buckaroos had one play left with :00.1 seconds to go and Caden Ricci connected with Sam Roth on a 12-yard pass for a touchdown as time expired. Lowry missed the 2-point conversion and led 6-0 at halftime.
Spring Creek took advantage of a Lowry turnover in the third quarter and tied the game on a 9-yard run. Another Buckaroo turnover led to the eventual winning score when the Spartans went ahead 14-6 on a 32-yard run with 10:26 to play in the contest.
Lowry did not go quietly and closed the gap to 14-12 with 1:42 to play in the game, when Ricci connected with Adam Dossey on a 37-yard touchdown pass and catch. Lowry attempted to tie the game, but missed the 2-point conversion.
Spring Creek recovered the ensuing on-side kick and ran the clock out to win the game.
Lowry is back home on Friday to play Fernley at 4:30 p.m.
