A man part of our town & heart Passed away at his home August 26th, 2017 at the age of 77.

Stanley was born January 4th, 1940 to Kenneth & Laverne Smith in Parachute, CO where he spent his childhood. After serving 4 years in the Navy he went to his 1st job repossessing cars in Los Angeles.

In 1964 Stan moved to Winnemucca to work with his brother in the Old Model T Truck Stop. While there he met Linda the love of his life and married beginning their 52 year residency in Winnemucca. Stan and Linda began many business ventures.

They began with the a few businesses, Golf Gas Station along with Model T Station (Stan’s Inc.) for 15 years. Then the need for change struck and they went into the retail business buying a building at 350 Bridge Street which was the former site of Sprouse-Reitz. The retail business began with Stan’s Hobbies & Crafts. Stan added Bridge Street Tire to the store and as emerging technology made it possible, the store evolved to include TV Satellite Sales & Service. While still operating the retail business, they leased Mill City Truck stop for 5 years. They kept very busy running all the businesses along raising 6 children.

In 1988, Stan and Linda were ready for a total change, 350 Bridge Street was transformed into the Dubble SS Saloon (Dubble SS was Stan’s CB Handle name in the truck stop.) He also purchased brewing equipment from the Union Bar in Virginia City and even brewed beer for a time. The Dubble SS Saloon was a very successful Hot Spot in Winnemucca throughout the years until his retirement 2012.

Not only was business his favorite hobby, he also enjoyed many exciting adventures through the years.

He raced cars, even renting an extra car out for $100 a race night out to make fun go around. Some of his many favorites included Dune Buggies, Land sail boats, RC Planes, Gyrocopter, Ultralights, Boating, much more. In the Dubble SS years, he loved and was known for a good game of pool and chess and won many league pool tournaments.

Stan was quite a powerhouse in his day, a hard worker and innovator. Successful or not in his ventures, he enjoyed being the man in the Arena taking chances. He had such a strong presence, and unforgettable personality. He loved the best way he knew how and truly loved people.

Stanley is survived by family Linda Smith, Children Byron Smith of Winnemucca, Terah (Ted) Zebroski of Winnemucca, Desiree Smith of ID. Grandchildren: Jameson, Devin, Kenzi, Jonathan, Ava, Lennox, Damond, Quincy, Izebel.

Great Grandaughter Rosaleigh; Sisters Elaine (Ral) Plumb of ID, and Carolyn Smith of WA.

He is proceeded in Death by both parents Kenneth Smith, Laverne Mead. Brothers Norman, Wilbur & Marvin Smith. Children: Jedidiah, Zebulun, Shantel Smith.

Stanley led a very exciting, full life and was truly loved, and will be missed.

“Celebration of Life” will be September 16th at Ormachea’s at 11:00 for Friends & Family.
