The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team closed out its season last week at the NIAA 2A State Championships at Toana Vista Golf Course in West Wendover.
The course played tough for the girls, as the it was set up for a PGA sectional tournament, two weeks prior to the event.
Sierra Lutheran won the state championship by nearly 100 strokes. The Falcons shot a two-day total of 928, including 451 on the final day.
West Wendover was second at 1,026 and Incline (1,147) finished third. Battle Mountain (1,161) and Wells (1,173) rounded out the top five. White Pine (1,211) and Yerington (1,234) closed out the scoring.

West Wendover’s Sarah Isaacs (182) and Sydney Boatman (201) were second and third, respectively. Sierra Lutheran's Adyson Casteel was fourth at 209 and Incline’s Mariana Leoncio placed fifth at 211.
Battle Mountain’s Lynzee Devlin finished sixth overall. She had rounds of 121 and 124. Teammate Savannah Gunther inched her way into the top 10 and placed ninth at 263. The only senior on the team shot rounds of 132 and 131.
Kennedy Soule placed 25th with a two-day total of 319 and Adriene Burkhart was 29th with consecutive rounds of 167 for a total of 334.
Myriah Watts also played for Battle Mountain at the state tournament and had a 159 on the second day.
“Toana Vista had been set up for a PGA sectional tournament two weeks ago,” said BMHS coach Roger Wallock. “The greens were set up for professional players and were extremely fast (12 on the stimp meter). Thus, scores were higher than normal across the board. However, Lynzee earned a sixth-place individual medal and the team took fourth out of nine schools and that is something to celebrate. We came a long way this year and every player improved their game. It was a fun season.”
