Lady Bucks drop pair of soccer matches to North Tahoe and Incline

With the season coming quickly to a close, the Lowry High School girls soccer team was looking to make one final push to try to make the Northern 3A Regional Championships in Winnemucca in November.

The Lady Bucks celebrated Homecoming last week but had the tough task of hosting Incline and North Tahoe this past weekend. Lowry came up short in both matches, losing to Incline 4-3 on Saturday and North Tahoe 3-0 on Friday. The Lady Bucks dropped to 2-8-1 in league play.

When the squads played for the first time this season in early September, the results was a 1-1 tie.

Lowry doubled that total in the first seven minutes of the match on Saturday morning.

Hailey Fernandez gave the Lady Bucks a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute on a penalty kick after the Highlanders were called for a hand ball in the box. Lowry continued to pressure Incline and scored two minutes later when Rut Contreras found the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage.

Incline cut the deficit in half midway through the first half on a goal by Madio Walner from about 10 yards out. Both teams had to chances to add on to the total but could not find the net.

Lowry regained its two-goal lead in the 53rd minute when Fernandez scored her second goal of the day. Incline had a poor kick trying to get the ball out of its own area and Fernandez was there for the easy goal in the open net.

The momentum did not last long for the Lady Bucks, as the Highlanders’ Lauren Golden scored two minutes later. Golden took a rebound off a previous shot and put the ball in the back of the net.

Incline tied the game in the 62nd minute on Walner’s second goal of the day and the senior completed the hat trick in the 70th minute to give the Highlanders the lead for good, at 4-3.

The Lady Bucks pressured the Highlanders from that point, but could not score the equalizing goal.
