The Lowry High School girls soccer team was looking to get the second half of the Northern 3A season started on a high note when it hosted Spring Creek on Wednesday night.

The Lady Bucks donned pink uniforms in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Donations giving during the game were given to Corinna Mullins and her family. Mullins is currently battling cancer and has to make trips to Salt Lake City.

Offense was hard to find by both teams during the 80 minutes, with scoring chances few and far between. Spring Creek struck for the lone goal with less than a minute to play in the first half. The Lady Bucks could not clear the ball and Ashton Moon received a pass from Lindsey Morrill. Moon’s shot was bale to get by Lowry goalie Lucy Ruiz.

Just prior to the Spring Creek goal, Lowry’s Hailey Fernandez hit a shot off the crossbar that bounced back into the field.

Ruiz kept the game at 1-0 with two crucial saves in the 63rd minute, stopping Spring Creek from adding to its lead. The Lady Bucks were able to make some offensive runs, but could not find the equalizing goal. Lowry had five shots on goal.

Lowry is back at home for two matches this weekend. The Lady Bucks took on North Tahoe on Friday and Incline on Saturday at 10 a.m. Lowry lost to North Tahoe in its first meeting and tied Incline.

Lowry heads out on the road on Wednesday to play Churchill County in Fallon at 4 p.m.
