Lady Bucks finish third on home course

When lightning struck at Lake Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe last month, that allowed for an opening for the Lowry High School girls golf team to host consecutive tournaments at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

The Northern 3A coaches decided to make up the tournament on Wednesday, a day before the regularly scheduled tournament in Winnemucca. The weather conditions were much better and the outcome was the same as it has been for much of the year.

Despite its No. 2 golfer dropping out of the tournament, Elko claimed the team title at 409. Spring Creek was second with a score of 424 and Lowry was third at 429. Fernley (458) and Churchill County (464) rounded out the top five, while Truckee (478), South Tahoe (528) and Dayton (550 completed the scores.

Despite the nice weather, Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course played tough, as the quick greens caused numerous problems for the players. Elko’s Annika Criss was the low medalist at 82. She won by seven strokes, as Lowry’s Tatyana Carlson was second at 89. Spring Creek’s Emalee Ingram was third at 94. They were the only golfers to break 100 on the day.

Hannah Havens carded a 106 for the Lady Bucks, while freshman Angelina Martinez shot a 115 for Lowry.

Junior Mekenzie Vandemark shot her best round of the year at 119. Freshman Kaitlyn Hales rounded out the scores with a 150.

Elko, Spring Creek and Lowry continue to lead the Northern 3A and are in line to capture the three spots for the NIAA 3A State Championships later in the month in Pahrump.

Lowry hosted the Northern 3A again on Thursday and results were not available at press time. The Lady Bucks close out the regular season on Monday in Fallon and Tuesday in Fernley.
