Rosas, Souza named to Northern 3A all-league, second team

Lowry High School’s Victor Rosas and Matthew Souza were named to the Northern 3A all-league, second team by the league’s 10 coaches.

Rosas, a senior, led the Buckaroos with 843 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He averaged 8.0 yards a carry this season. Rosas has committed to play for Eastern Oregon next year.

Souza was selected at cornerback on defense for the Buckaroos. The senior was a two-way player at wide receiver and cornerback. Souza has also committed to play at Eastern Oregon.

Churchill County’s Sean McCormick was named the MVP of the Northern 3A. Fernley’s Zach Burns, Willy Pritchard and Harry McDonald were named the Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Lineman of the Year, respectively.

Fernley’s Chris Ward was named the Coach of the Year.

The first-team, all-league offense included South Tahoe’s Peyton Galli at quarterback. Aaron Proctor (Fernley), Jason Painter (Spring Creek) and Jorge Dominguez (Sparks) rounded out the running back crew.

Dakota Larson (Spring Creek), Matt Cain (South Tahoe) and Brock Richardson (Churchill County) were the first-team wide receivers. South Tahoe’s McCallan Castles was named the first-team tight end and Truckee’s Jamie Parisi was selected as an athlete.

The offensive line included Ben Dooley (Churchill County), Julius Rice-Misa (Sparks), Andrew Parkhurst (Truckee), Gabe Richards (Fernley) and Lonnie Slapinski (Fernley).

The first-team defense was comprised of lineman Angel Rios (Wooster), Jackson Binns (South Tahoe), Marcus Trotter (Truckee) and Carl Hansen (Elko).

The linebackers were Michael Doughty (Truckee), Caleb Moretti (South Tahoe), Trent Thorn (Churchill County) and Noah Osterman (Fernley). Larson and Cain were selected at cornerback and Truckee’s Cole Eichele and Proctor were picked at safety. Wooster’s Lorenzo Bega was named the first-team kicker.

Truckee’s Marcus Bellon was named the second-team quarterback.

Joining Rosas at running back were Eichele and South Tahoe’s Jakob Costley. Cameron Bertok (Fernley), Jeff Walker (Dayton) and Adam Amezola (Wooster) were the wide receivers.

Spring Creek’s Jake Oliphant was selected at tight end and Elko’s Cooper Jones was the athlete.

The offensive line included Benioni Outafi (Churchill County), Martin Davalos (Wooster), Andrew Armstrong (Spring Creek), Kevin Contreras (Truckee) and Logan Langmeier (South Tahoe).

The second-team defensive line included Kyle Leake (South Tahoe), Russ Ortiz), Zane Johnson (Wooster) and Chance Bailey (Spring Creek).

The linebackers were comprised of Xzavier Edson (Spring Creek), Linden Reich (Wooster), Tommy McCormick (Churchill County) and Antwan Valterra (Elko).

Joining Souza at cornerback was Fernley’s Tyler Dennis and Elko’s Christian Quintana and Parisi were named at safety. Truckee’s Emannuel Jones was the second-team kicker.
