Winnemucca seventh graders perfect on the year at 5-0

The Winnemucca Junior High School seventh-grade boys basketball team is off to a perfect start after its first five games.

The Warriors opened their season on Nov. 1 in Fallon and came away with a 30-11 victory. Winnemucca traveled to Carson City on Nov. 3 to take on Carson Middle School and Eagle Valley Middle School. 

The Warriors trailed by double figures in both contests but came back to beat Eagle Valley by 10 points and Carson by three points.  

Winnemucca made its home debut on Nov. 4 and beat Lovelock 44-0 and McDermitt 47-16. 

Winnemucca was back on the road on Nov. 8 in Fernley to play Silverland Middle School. The contest went into double overtime, before Winnemucca won 55-52.  

Silverland led by six points with 1:30 to go in the game but Winnemucca picked up a few steals and went up by one point with five seconds to play. However, Winnemucca was  called for a foul with two seconds left and a Silverland player made 1-of2 free throws to send it to the game into overtime.

Winnemucca was in Lovelock on Friday to play Lovelock and McDermitt. The Warriros are off through Thanksgiving and return to the floor on Dec. 2 in McDermitt at 9 a.m.
