Obituary: Carol Marie Acree

Carol Marie Acree, 79, a long time Winnemucca resident and Butte, Montana native, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2017 at Humboldt General Hospital.

Carol was born in Butte on March 9, 1937 to Harp and Loretta Sheehan and attended Butte schools through high school. She graduated from Colorado Woman’s College in Denver where she was a member of Alpha Mu Gamma and Phi Theta Kappa. She married James Cole Acree of Winnemucca in June, 1957 and lived in Winnemucca until her death.

She was a provider, a Little League Mom, a Chauffer, a proud Irish Catholic and Catechism teacher, a neighborhood Mom, a Beatles fan, a Yankees fan and a lifelong Buckaroos fan. She loved sharing her memories of Butte, her Irish heritage, and her early years in Winnemucca, where she worked and owed or co-owned several businesses. She served Humboldt County as the Child Support Coordinator in the District Attorney’s office, was a volunteer at Humboldt General Hospital, and served many years as a member and treasurer for the Hospital Auxiliary.

Carol was a devoted parishioner of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, a life-long bowler, and crossword champion. Most of all, she was a Mother, a friend to many, and a devoted, loving grandmother to her granddaughter, Nicole Marie.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents; husband Cole; and son Steve. She is survived by her brother, John J. “Jack” Sheehan of Gold Coast, Oregon; niece Mazie Webb of Seattle, Washington; and son John, daughter-in-law Susan, and granddaughter, Nicole, of Vienna, Virginia.

Memorial Mass will be held on November 20, 2017 at 11:00 am at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Winnemucca.
