Obituary: Ray “Leroy” Rathbun

Raymond Eddie Rathbun went to be with the Lord on Oct. 29th 2017 after putting up a good fight with prolonged dialysis.  Ray was born on July 7, 1942 to Dora and Fred Rathbun in Warwick Rhode Island. Ray was the oldest of seven siblings and leaves behind two sisters (Joyce Dexter), (Shirley Turner), and a brother (John Rathbun) all from Rhode Island.

Ray was an Air Force veteran serving in Japan and later deploying to Winnemucca, NV Air Force Base where he finished out his duty.  Winnemucca is where he resided and started his family.  Ray left behind a daughter, Tami Anderson (Fred), grandsons Lane and Shaun Mentaberry, a son Ronnie Rathbun (Shelly), and granddaughters, Blaike and Nathalee Rathbun.

Ray worked for Duval Gold as the Blast foreman for several years before employing at Sierra Pacific Power Co. where he retired in 2007.

Ray was a hard -working man who loved his family and appreciated the simple things in life.  “This is living” he would say often.

After so many years of hard work Ray was ready to start Living and enjoying those simple things.  Yuma, AZ is where that took him and his wife Debbie.  Ray and Debbie made new friends and enjoyed their time there for the past ten years.  Debbie brought into Ray’s life an extended family of loving children and grandchildren.  Ray was the happiest spending quality time with his family and grandkids.

Ray was “pappy” to ALL his grandkids and made the best Pappy cakes and magic fire ever…

Ray will be missed dearly, he touched the lives of so many people and left a warm lasting impression on all of them.

Cremation burial will take place at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, NV at a later date.
