The Lowry High School softball team was well recognized for its second-place finish in the Northern 3A this season.
The Lady Bucks placed nine of their players on the three respective all-league teams. Kyllie Sappington was named the Northern 3A Player of the Year and four others joined her on the Northern 3A first team.
Sappington batted .446 this season with 45 hits and 37 runs scored. She had seven 18 doubles, three home runs and a team-high 49 RBI. Sappington committed just one error this season as the Lowry catcher.
Alanna Miller (first base), Sydney Connors (shortstop), Alyssa Kuskie (outfield) and Sylvie Prokasky (pitcher) were named to the first team.
Miller was second on the team in batting average at .534 to go with 47 hits. The senior drove in 39 runs, scored 50 runs and had 15 doubles.
Connors, a sophomore, was named to the first team for a second consecutive season. She led the team with a .536 batting average and her 52 hits were the best on the Lady Bucks squad. She had a team-high seven home runs to go with 16 doubles, two triples, 50 runs scored and 44 RBI.
Kuskie finished the year with a .455 batting average and was second on the team with 51 hits. The junior had eight triples, seven doubles, a home run, 49 RBI (tied for team lead) and 49 runs scored.
Prokasky went 11-3 on the season with a 3.77 ERA. She struck out 31 and walked just 18 in 78 innings of work. Prokasky hit. 324 this year with 12 hits, 15 runs scored and nine RBI.
Churchill County’s Tammie Shemenski was named the Coach of the Year
The remainder of the first included Churchill County’s Caitlyn Welch, Stacy Kalt, Jordan Beyer and Faith Cornmesser; Fernley’s Hailee Edgar and Macie Kirk; Elko’s Madison Harris and South Tahoe’s Kendra Conard.
Sappington was named to the all-state first team and was joined by Conard, Edgar, Cornmesser, Kalt and Welch. Miller, Connors, Kuskie and Prokasky were second team choices to the all-state team. That group was rounded out with Harris, Beyer and Kirk.
The Lady Bucks’ Kelcey Cooper (outfield) and Madi McClellan (third base) were named to the second team. Cooper hit .337 on the season with 31 hits, 25 RBI and 48 runs scored. The freshman had three home runs, two doubles and two triples.
McClellan batted .495 with a 48 and 45 RBI. The sophomore added 29 runs scored, 13 doubles, two triples and two home runs.
They were joined on the second team by Fernley’s Reese Jones, Alexandra Conder and Natalie Stewart; Spring Creek’s Paige Nelms, Ashley Bodin and Rilee Nelson; Dayton’s Aleea McGill-Howe; Truckee’s Danielle Jackson and Churchill County’s Alexis Jarrett and Kayla Buckmaster.
Lowry’s Tiana Herrera and Macey Katzenmeyer were named to the honorable mention team. Herrera batted .318 this season with 27 hits, 37 runs scored, 15 RBI and five doubles.
Katzenmeyer, one of the three sophomores on the team, went 10-4 in the circle for the Lady Bucks. Katzenmeyer had an ERA of 3.44 to go with 45 strikeouts and 34 walks.
That honorable mention group was comprised of Elko’s Brandy Kufeld, Kaitlyn Rizo and Lauryn Guenin; Truckee’s Cheyenne Brown; South Tahoe’s Drue Chapman, Brooke Erdody, Samantha Kallas, Teagen Williamson, Hailey Naccarto and Sidney McCarthy; Churchill County’s Shelbi Schultz; Fernley’s McKenna Montgomery and Justina Hawley; Spring Creek’s Josie Corona and Kaily Webb and Sparks’ Cynthia Barela, Angie Ruiz and Nicole Fierro.
Lowry finished the year at 23-19 overall and were 20-4 in the Northern 3A. The Lady Bucks lost in the elimination game of the regional tournament to South Tahoe.
