Lowry golfers finish fourth at 3A State Championships

In its first NIAA State Golf Championship since 2014, Lowry High School finished fourth at the state meet, which concluded Tuesday afternoon in Spring Creek.

The Buckaroos were in second place after the first 18 holes on Monday with a score of 432, but shot 463 on the final 18 holes to finish at 895.

Spring Creek took advantage of its home course and won the state title with a total of 815. The Spartans shot 398 on day one. Boulder City (869) and Churchill County (890) were second and third, respectively. Pahrump Valley (918) and Moapa Valley (1,179) rounded out the team scores.

Spring Creek’s Daniel Mahlke was the low medalist at 150, with equal rounds of 75 to win the state title by four strokes. Boulder City’s and Pahrump Valley’s Austen Ancell tied for second with totals of 154.

Spring Creek’s Mason Adams (156) and Western’s Jared Smith (158) rounded out the top five.

Peyton Capellen finished in 11th place with a total of 169. The junior shot 83 on day one and 86 on the final 18 holes. Fellow junior Zane Fifield shot rounds of 85 and 87 to tie for 15th place at 172.

Sophomore Dillon Patterson tied for 20th with rounds of 84-96-180 and Steven Bosch was 24th with a total of 186. Bosch split his rounds at 89 and 97.

Freshman Kobe Stoker tied for 26th in his state tournament at 188. Stoker shot 91 on day one and 97 in the final 18 holes. Seth Duncan rounded out the scores for Lowry at 257. He shot 136 on day one and 121 on day two.

The Buckaroo roster featured all underclassmen and returned all of its golfers. The roster has five freshmen, four juniors and two sophomores.
